The main tissue makers and their brands

Chandaria Industries: Rosy, Toilex and Velvex

Chandaria is a long-established Kenyan tissue maker. Rosy is its colourful household range, and Sagaci Research reports it as the most scanned tissue brand in Kenya. Toilex is the everyday toilet roll found in most shops, and Velvex is the softer, premium range covering facial tissue, serviettes and toilet rolls.

Royal Converters: Hanan, Bella, Tiara and Mfalme

Royal Converters, based in Nairobi, sells Hanan as its flagship range: toilet tissue, serviettes, kitchen towels, hand towels, wipes, cling film and foil. Bella covers facial tissue, wipes and personal care. Tiara covers everyday tissue and serviettes, and Mfalme is aimed at commercial and institutional buyers, which is why it is common in jumbo rolls.

Sarjudas Industries: Pulita

Pulita is made in Kenya by Sarjudas Industries, whose range includes Pulita tissue rolls and serviettes. Pulita serviettes are popular with hotels and food businesses and are usually sold in 18s bales.

Which tissue brand is best?

There is no single best brand; it depends on the job. For guest rooms and homes, a softer roll such as Velvex or Hanan goes down well. For staff and public washrooms, a jumbo roll such as Mfalme costs less to run. For resale in a kiosk, the brands customers already ask for, such as Rosy and Toilex, sell fastest.
