Box sizes are in inches: width × length × height. Leave about an inch of space around the cake board so the cake can be lifted out without touching the sides.
How high should the box be?
A 4-inch box suits most single-layer and two-layer cakes. Choose 5 inches if the cake has toppers, flowers, piped peaks or a tall frosting. Measure from the board to the top of the tallest decoration and add a little.
Cake boards and cake bases
A cake base keeps the cake rigid when it is lifted into the box. Mkimon sells round and square cake bases (sized for 1 kg cakes) and 8 × 8 boards. Use a board the same size as the cake or slightly bigger, and a box slightly bigger than the board.
